P0108 — Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit High Input

moderate

What it means

The MAP sensor voltage stays above the permitted limit, so the control module assumes a very high manifold pressure and heavy engine load. It therefore enriches the mixture: black smoke, fuel smell, rough idle and high consumption. Prolonged rich running overheats the catalytic converter and can foul the spark plugs.

Likely causes (most common first)

  1. Faulty MAP sensor or short to voltage in the signal wire
  2. Vacuum hose disconnected, so the sensor measures atmospheric pressure
  3. Blocked or kinked hose holding pressure at the sensor
  4. Corroded connector, water in the sensor plug
  5. Large vacuum leak or worn engine with poor manifold vacuum
  6. Sticking EGR valve raising manifold pressure

Can you drive with it?

Short trips are possible, but the rich mixture harms the catalytic converter and consumption is high; repair promptly.
