P0108 — Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit High Input
moderate
What it means
The MAP sensor voltage stays above the permitted limit, so the control module assumes a very high manifold pressure and heavy engine load. It therefore enriches the mixture: black smoke, fuel smell, rough idle and high consumption. Prolonged rich running overheats the catalytic converter and can foul the spark plugs.
Likely causes (most common first)
- Faulty MAP sensor or short to voltage in the signal wire
- Vacuum hose disconnected, so the sensor measures atmospheric pressure
- Blocked or kinked hose holding pressure at the sensor
- Corroded connector, water in the sensor plug
- Large vacuum leak or worn engine with poor manifold vacuum
- Sticking EGR valve raising manifold pressure
Can you drive with it?
Short trips are possible, but the rich mixture harms the catalytic converter and consumption is high; repair promptly.
