P0110 — Intake Air Temperature Circuit Malfunction
minor
What it means
The control module has detected an electrical fault in the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor circuit. Air temperature is used to correct the air density calculation, fuel trim and ignition timing. Symptoms are usually mild: slightly worse starting when cold or hot, small loss of response and a modest rise in fuel consumption.
Likely causes (most common first)
- Damaged wiring or a corroded connector at the IAT sensor
- Faulty intake air temperature sensor
- Sensor element covered with dirt or oil, reacting too slowly
- Open circuit or short in the harness between sensor and control module
- Poor ground connection in the sensor circuit
- Faulty engine control module (rare)
Can you drive with it?
Driving is safe, but starting and fuel economy suffer a little; fix it at the next service.
