P0111 — Intake Air Temperature Circuit Range/Performance Problem

minor

What it means

The IAT signal is within its electrical limits but implausible: it does not match coolant temperature at cold start or does not change as expected while driving. The control module then applies wrong air density corrections. Cold starting can be harder and fuel consumption slightly higher, but the engine usually runs normally.

Likely causes (most common first)

  1. IAT sensor drifted out of calibration or reacting too slowly
  2. Sensor element fouled with oil or dust from the intake tract
  3. Sensor mounted in the wrong place or a non-original part fitted
  4. High resistance in the wiring or connector due to corrosion
  5. Hot air recirculating into the intake because of a missing air duct or heat shield
  6. Intake leak drawing engine bay air past the sensor

Can you drive with it?

The car can be driven normally; expect only slightly worse cold starts and mileage until it is repaired.

This is the generic meaning. What about your car?

The same code has different typical culprits on different engines. Tell the AI your make, model and year — it will rank the causes for your exact car and give you a check order.
