P0112 — Intake Air Temperature Circuit Low Input
minor
What it means
The signal voltage of the intake air temperature sensor has fallen below the permitted threshold, which corresponds to an unrealistically high air temperature. The control module then leans the mixture and may retard ignition timing to protect against knock. The result is reduced power, hesitation and slightly worse hot starting.
Likely causes (most common first)
- Short to ground in the IAT signal wire
- Faulty intake air temperature sensor with an internal short
- Water or dirt in the sensor connector bridging the contacts
- Chafed harness rubbing against the intake manifold or body
- Wrong sensor with an incorrect resistance curve fitted
- Faulty engine control module (rare)
Can you drive with it?
Driving is possible with some loss of power and response; repair without long delay.
