What it means

The transmission control module receives no plausible signal from the input turbine speed sensor, which measures the rotational speed of the torque converter turbine at the gearbox input shaft. Without this value the TCM cannot calculate slip or gear ratio and cannot control shift pressure correctly. The result is harsh or delayed shifting, no torque converter lockup and usually limp mode in a single gear.

Likely causes (most common first)

  1. Failed or magnetically contaminated speed sensor
  2. Metal debris from clutch wear stuck to the sensor tip
  3. Damaged wiring, chafed insulation or corroded connector between sensor and TCM
  4. Low or dirty transmission fluid affecting the internal harness and sensor operation
