What it means

The ECU has detected a general fault in the vehicle supply voltage: the value on its power pin is outside the working window or fluctuates unpredictably. Board voltage is the reference for injector opening times, ignition coil dwell and every sensor supply, so an unstable supply distorts all of them. It usually appears as flickering lights, a resetting radio and clock, and a batch of unrelated codes stored at once.

Likely causes (most common first)

  1. Loose, corroded or oxidised battery terminals and main earth strap
  2. Worn alternator brushes or a voltage regulator with drifting output
  3. Slipping or glazed alternator belt
  4. Battery near the end of its life with high internal resistance
  5. High resistance in the main power feed, fusible link or ignition switch contacts
  6. Corroded ECU connector pins or a poor ECU ground point on the body
