P0335 — Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit

What it means

The engine control module receives no usable signal from crankshaft position sensor A, the master reference for both ignition and injection timing. Without this signal the engine usually will not start at all, or starts only after long cranking on the camshaft signal in a limited emergency mode. Typical evidence is a dead tachometer while cranking, sudden stalling in motion and no spark or injection pulse.

Likely causes (most common first)

  1. Failed crankshaft position sensor, inductive or Hall type
  2. Broken, chafed or shorted wiring, corroded or unlatched connector
  3. Metal debris on the sensor tip or an excessive air gap to the reluctor wheel
  4. Damaged or displaced reluctor wheel teeth, sheared crankshaft or flywheel key
  5. Electrical interference from unshielded aftermarket wiring or defective ignition leads
  6. Failed sensor input circuit inside the ECM

Can you drive with it?
