P0132 — O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

What it means

The signal voltage of the upstream oxygen sensor on bank 1 remained above the calibrated limit, usually more than about 0.9 V, for longer than allowed. A constantly high voltage means the sensor reports a permanently rich mixture, which can be genuine over-fuelling or a short to a voltage source in the wiring. The ECM pulls large negative fuel trims, giving black smoke, fuel smell, poor economy, rough running and a lit MIL.

Likely causes (most common first)

1. Genuinely rich mixture from leaking injectors or excessive fuel pressure
2. Sensor signal wire shorted to battery voltage or to the heater supply
3. Contaminated or silicone-poisoned oxygen sensor
4. Faulty mass air flow or coolant temperature sensor over-fuelling the engine
5. Restricted air filter or clogged crankcase ventilation drawing in oil vapour
6. Faulty engine control module

Can you drive with it?

Driving is possible but a rich mixture washes the bores and destroys the catalyst, so repair it quickly.
