P0106 — Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Range/Performance Problem

What it means

The MAP sensor reading does not agree with engine load, throttle position and barometric pressure as the control module expects. The sensor measures intake manifold vacuum or boost pressure and is a key input for fuel and ignition timing. The engine may idle unevenly, accelerate poorly, jerk under load and use more fuel.

Likely causes (most common first)

1. Cracked, disconnected or clogged vacuum hose to the MAP sensor
2. Sensor port or sensing element fouled with carbon and oil
3. Intake manifold gasket leak or other vacuum leak
4. Faulty MAP sensor with drifted characteristic
5. Damaged wiring or a corroded connector at the sensor
6. Restricted exhaust or worn engine with low vacuum

Can you drive with it?

Driving to a workshop is normally possible, but with poor throttle response and higher fuel use.
