P0462 — Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Low Input

What it means

The voltage on the fuel level signal line has fallen below the calibrated threshold, typically under about 0.2 V, which corresponds to a level below the physical minimum of the tank. The ECU treats this as an electrical fault rather than an empty tank. The gauge normally drops to zero and the low-fuel warning lamp stays lit.

Likely causes (most common first)

1. Signal wire shorted to chassis ground or to the sender return line
2. Internally shorted sender potentiometer
3. Water ingress and corrosion in the fuel pump module connector
4. Float arm detached or broken, resting on the bottom of the tank
5. Chafed harness under the rear seat or along the tank straps
6. Faulty cluster or ECU input stage pulling the line to ground

Can you drive with it?
