Every Volvo since 2001 (petrol; 1996 in the US) or 2004 (diesel) has a standard OBD-II port: engine fault codes, live sensors, readiness monitors and freeze frames are readable with any ELM327 adapter — including right in your browser on the Connect page (USB and Bluetooth LE adapters work there). On CAN-bus cars (roughly 2008 and newer) the free Diagnost program for Windows and macOS additionally scans all modules — ABS, airbags, transmission, body electronics — and clears codes per module. Electric cars have no combustion engine, so the set of available data is different.
The Windows program works with ELM327 and OBDLink adapters over USB, Bluetooth, BLE and WiFi, with J2534 devices (Mini-VCI, Mongoose, MDI, VCM II, Scanmatik) and over K-line on pre-2007 cars (K+DCAN or VAG KKL cable); the macOS version works with ELM327 over USB and WiFi. Both detect your car automatically by VIN.
